Terms of Use

Last updated: June 2026

Welcome to Palette. By creating an account and using this tool, you agree to these terms. They're short because this is a small, honest tool made by one person.

Age requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to create a Palette account. When you sign up, we ask for your birth year to confirm this and to manage age-restricted features. If you are under 18, you should have your parent or guardian's permission to use this service. Some features — including Circle Chat — are only available once you are 18 or older.

What Palette is

Palette is a personal project tracking tool with an optional social layer. It stores your project notes, descriptions, links, and images so you can access them from any device. It is not a professional service, a business platform, or a backup solution.

Your content is yours

Everything you write, upload, or create in Palette belongs to you. This includes your project notes and images, canvas sketches, Library books and reflections, and Darkroom media collections. Palette does not claim any ownership over any of it.

Public content

Projects can be set to private, link-only, or public. You choose.

  • Private projects are visible only to you.
  • Link-only projects are accessible to anyone with the direct link. Treat a link-only project as semi-public — anyone you share the link with can view it, react to it, and leave replies.
  • Public projects are visible to all Palette users in Discover and to anyone with the link. Your public projects are associated with your profile nickname.

You are responsible for what you make public. Don't post content you wouldn't want others to see.

Library and Darkroom

When you complete a project, you can create a Library book — a customizable record of the work including images, styling choices, and an optional reflection. Library books can be shown or hidden individually, and your Library's bookshelf can be made public or kept private.

When your Library is public, other signed-in Palette users can sign your guestbook. You are responsible for the content you post in your Library. Guestbook entries from others can be removed by contacting Jessica at hello@heartandhues.com.

The Darkroom is a private media collection by default. You can enable public access to share your media strings with visitors.

Reactions and replies

Other people — including anonymous visitors — can leave reactions and replies on your link-only and public projects. You can view these responses from your project page. Palette does not actively moderate replies. If you receive a reply that violates the acceptable use policy below, you can delete it from your public project page or report it to us.

Circle and Discover

Palette has an optional social layer. If you set projects to public, your work may appear in Discover and other users may add you to their Circle. This is how the feature is designed to work.

You can opt out at any time by setting your projects to private or link-only. You cannot prevent a specific user from adding you to their Circle, but they can only see what you have made public.

Circle Chat

Circle Chat lets you send direct messages to people who are in your Circle. It is available only to users who are 18 or older, and only between mutual connections — both users must have added each other to their respective Circles before a conversation can begin. This is intentional and not something that can be bypassed. (Palette may still contact you directly about your account or a report at any age.)

Chat messages are stored to deliver them reliably. Only you and the person you are messaging can read your conversation. Palette does not read, sell, or share the contents of your messages.

You are responsible for how you use Chat. Don't use it to harass, threaten, solicit, or send unsolicited explicit content to anyone. Only use Chat to talk to people you actually know and have mutually connected with. If someone makes you uncomfortable, remove them from your Circle to end the conversation.

Palette does not actively monitor chat messages. If you receive a message that violates these terms, you can report it using the report feature or by emailing hello@heartandhues.com.

Account responsibility

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Don't share access with people you don't trust with your data.

No guarantees

Palette is a personal tool provided as-is. While every reasonable effort is made to keep it running reliably, there are no uptime guarantees, no SLA, and no promise of permanent availability. Export your data regularly using the Export feature in the ··· menu. If Palette ever goes away, you'll have your data.

Acceptable use

Palette is a creative studio — treat it like one, and treat the people here with respect. The following are not allowed anywhere on Palette: public projects, notes, replies, reactions, your profile and nickname, your Library and guestbook, and Circle Chat.

  • Sexual or explicit content — nudity, pornography, or sexual solicitation, in images or text.
  • Content that sexualizes minors, in any form. This is removed immediately and permanently, and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement as required by law.
  • Graphic violence, gore, or shock content.
  • Hate speech or hateful imagery — attacks on people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics.
  • Harassment, threats, bullying, or doxxing — including sharing someone's private information without consent.
  • Spam, scams, or phishing — including unsolicited commercial or explicit messages.
  • Copyright or intellectual property infringement — posting images, writing, or other work you don't have the rights to use, including content you didn't create (for example, someone else's text in a Free Write). If you are the rights holder of something posted here, email us and we'll remove it.
  • Illegal content or activity.
  • Impersonation — pretending to be someone you are not.

Profanity on its own is fine — this is a creative space, not a place we police language. But language used to attack or harass another person is not okay.

If you see something that breaks these rules, you can report it from the project page or email us at hello@heartandhues.com. We review reports and, depending on what we find, may remove content, set a project to private, warn the person responsible, or suspend or permanently remove an account.

Changes

These terms may be updated occasionally. If anything significant changes, users will be notified. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.
