Wild Wisdom
Wild Wisdom is a children's SEL comic series pairing diverse, internationally-set kid characters with mythic animal guides. Trauma-informed underneath, magical on the surface.
Each issue follows a single child through an emotional experience — anxiety, grief, anger, loneliness — until a mythic animal guide appears at the turning point to offer one piece of wisdom and one mindful question. The format blends comic storytelling with reflection activities, a feelings scale, a coping skill, and a connect-the-dots reveal of the issue's guide.
The series grew directly from an original illustration practice. The animal guides — the Cosmic Whale swimming through a night sky, the Tiger half-hidden in jungle leaves, the Stag with rune-carved antlers wreathed in living seasons, the ancient Turtle glowing from within — were painted first, each one a fully realized being before the series had a name. Wild Wisdom is, in many ways, the story that grew up around them.
The animal cast includes the Wise Stag, the Cosmic Whale, the Dream Guide, the Clever Fox, the Green Man, and the Council of Cats — anchored by Sagan (sharp, chaotic wisdom) and Sebastian (slow, inevitable, asleep for most meetings but somehow knows everything). Distributed through Teachers Pay Publishers, under the broader universe of Inner Wild.
